The weekly Detroit Gazette, Michigan’s first successful newspaper, began a 13 year run on this day. The Detroit Gazette was a French-English weekly newspaper published by John P. Sheldon and Ebenezer Reed on the third printing press in Michigan. The editors were also the public printers for the territory.
MSU students can view the newspaper in the University Archives and Historical Collection. It is also available on microfilm at the Library of Michigan.
