1947: Earthquakes Rattles Branch County

On Aug. 10, 1947, the largest earthquake in Michigan rattled Branch County. The 4.60 magnitude earthquake damaged chimneys, windows, plaster and brock cornices.

No one was injured in the earthquake. The earthquake was felt as far away as Ontario, Canada, Cadillac, Chicago and Muncie, Ind.
