On September 14, 1968, Denny McLain won his 30th game of the season, as the Tigers scored two in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Oakland Athletics 5-4. Willie Horton singled in Mickey Stanley with the winning run. McLain, who finished the season with a 31-6 record, is the last Major League pitcher to win 30 games or more.
McLain was also the first 30-game winner in the major leagues since 1938.
