1971 : Pontiac Native Hijacks Plane to Cuba

Pontiac native Richard Dixon hijacked an Eastern Air Lines plane to fly him from Detroit to Cuba on Oct. 9, 1971. He was arrested a little more than four years later and subsequently found guilty of murdering a west Michigan police officer. Dixon is currently imprisoned in Michigan’s Kinross Correctional Facility in the Upper Peninsula.
