Gerald R. Ford, who had grown up in Grand Rapids and was educated at the University of Michigan, became the first vice president in American history to succeed to the nation’s highest office because of the resignation of a president.
Today President Ford is honored by the Gerald Ford Presidential Library and Museum in Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids.
