A radio station owner who founded the Wings of Mercy charity that provided air transport to thousands of critically ill people has died. Peter VandenBosch was 91.
Since 1991, Wings of Mercy pilots have donated 8,000 free flights. VandenBosch flew at least 200 of them himself.
He was president emeritus of Zeeland-based Wings of Mercy, which also has chapters in Minnesota and eastern Michigan.
VandenBosch served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 in Italy. He co-owned radio station WJBL, selling it in 1983.
