Hundreds of gun rights activists from across Michigan gathered at the Capitol on Wednesday to demonstrate their right to openly carry their guns and advocate for protecting the Second Amendment during the annual Second Amendment March. The annual rally has taken place for the past eight years.
“It’s the amendment that protects all the other amendments,” Dan Meadows of West Bloomfield said. “It’s the right that protects all other rights. Without arms, speech could fall and nothing could be done about it. Freedom of religion or freedom not to be religious could fall.”
Several Republican gubernatorial candidates showed up to voice their support of the Second Amendment to the crowd. Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, Attorney General Bill Schuette and Sen. Patrick Colbeck all spoke.
