1796 : General “Mad” Anthony Wayne Visits Detroit

On August 13, 1796, General “Mad” Anthony Wayne reached Detroit, where he was welcomed for his earlier victory over the Native Americans and the British at Fallen Timbers. Wayne stayed in Detroit for several months before poor health sent him east. He died at Presque Isle, Penn., in mid-December 1796.
