1887 : Detroit Symphony Performs for First Time

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra performed the first concert of its first subscription season at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, 1887 at the Detroit Opera House.

Over the years, the DSO was the first orchestra to broadcast a performance over the radio.

More recently, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra started streaming live performances to the public over the internet.  Today, the DSO broadcasts approximately 20 to 25 performances per season via streaming video, claiming the distinction of being the planet’s most accessible orchestra..
