1899 : Henry Ford Leaves Edison Illuminating Company To Concentrate on Automobiles

On Aug. 15, 1899, Henry Ford resigned as an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company to concentrate on automobile production.

He had left his family’s farm in Dearborn to work in Detroit’s machine shops. The chief engineer job had no regular hours and he was on call 24/7.
