1921 : Michigan Inmates Design Escape-Proof Cellblock

On July 18, 1921, inmates who had attempted ingenious or daring escapes began designing a new $80,000 escape-proof cellblock at the Marquette prison.

In exchange for reductions in their sentences, the escape artists prepared almost all of the plans and specifications of the special wing, and their fellow inmates carried out most of the construction work.
