1939 : Detroit City Council Tightens Regulations on Pinball Machines

On May 23, 1939, the Detroit City Council tightened regulations on places where the public could play pinball despite some public pressure to ban the machines entirely. Pinball merchants argued to the council that it “would be unjust and unfair” to wipe out what they term to be a “legitimate business.”
