1948 : First Transatlantic Flight of U.S. Aircraft Originates from Selfridge Air Force Base

July 20, 2018 all-day

A new website, produced by the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, offers history and heritage highlights from the nearly 100 years of aviation at the base. Included is a report on the flight of Fox Able One, in which P80 aircraft flew from Selfridge to a base in Germany on July 20, 1948, marking the first time U.S. military aircraft flew across the ocean rather than being shipped. The site tracks the history of both the base and the wing, which operates as a component of the Michigan Air National Guard.
