1979: Cesar Chavez Visits Michigan Legislature

In the state capitol to promote a UFW boycott of “Red Coach” lettuce, Cesar Chavez addressed a House-Senate meeting which drew only slightly more that 20 lawmakers — most of them liberal Democrats.  The rest of the House Chamber was filled with legislative staff members and Chavez supporters.

Chavez said Michigan was only the 2nd state recently to invite him to appear before its legislature.

Without collective bargaining, migrant farm workers will continue to be left at the whim of “avarice and injustice”.
