On September 16, 2003, the Detroit Shock won their first of three WNBA championships, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 83-78 in a hotly contested Game 3 of the final series before a crowd of over 22,000 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. It was largest crowd to ever watch a WNBA game.
