When the St. Clair Inn opened in 1926, it was the first U.S. hotel with central air conditioning. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

In its prime,  the hotel was host to Ginger Rogers (famous actress and dancer who did everything Fred Astair did backwards and in high heels) and Fess Parker, TV’s Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. The Detroit Tigers also used to stay at the St. Clair Inn.
