On March 22, 1999, Dr. Jack Kevorkian went on trial for the murder of Thomas Youk after a videotape of Youk’s September 17, 1998 death was shown on the CBS news program “60 Minutes.” Kevorkian insisted on acting as his own attorney and was ultimately convicted by Judge Jessica Cooper of second-degree murder and delivering a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison and served about eight years until being paroled on June 1, 2007 by Governor Jennifer Granholm.
