After eating lunch at Zimmerman’s in Ann Arbor, President Obama gave a speech at the University of Michigan urging people to get behind his proposal to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 a hour, from the current $7.25.

Wednesday’s speech marked Obama’s third visit to U-M.

The federal minimum wage debuted in 1938. The 25-cent hourly rate applied only to certain job categories.
