On Sept. 21, 1945, Jerry Bruckheimerwas was born in Detroit to Jewish immigrants from Germany.

At home, he spoke German and English, and he attended Mumford High School before moving to Arizona for college, where he studied psychology and mathematics.

All along, however, Bruckheimer loved movies. He moved to Los Angeles from New York, where he worked in advertising after college, before learning of an opportunity to produce a film. He’s since produced more than 30 films and television shows.

Some of his many tv shows include CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Without a Trace, Cold Case, and the U.S. version of The Amazing Race.

Some of his best-known films include Beverly Hills Cop, Flashdance, Top Gun, The Rock, Con Air, Armageddon, Bad Boys, Enemy of the State, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the National Treasure franchise.
