On June 13, 2002, the Detroit Red Wings won their third Stanley Cup in six years, finishing off the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 at the Joe Louis Arena to win the Finals in five games. Coach Scotty Bowman announced his retirement after the game, having won a record ninth Stanley Cup.
