Flood damage to Isabella County public and private property is near $90 million, according to preliminary assessments announced Wednesday, June 28.

The damage to homes and roads appears to make Isabella the hardest-hit among four that have declared states of emergency in the wake of heavy rains and flooding that started June 23.

In Midland County, the second hardest-hit, roads and bridges sustained about $13 million in damage, county officials said.

Gladwin and Bay counties also reported damage to roads, but to a lesser extent than Midland County and especially Isabella County.

At a press conference at the Isabella County Emergency Center in Mount Pleasant, Isabella County Administrator Margaret McAvoy said the preliminary damage assessments include private and public property and crops.

Private property damages are estimated at $39 million, she said

Public property damages are coming in close to $27 million. They include damage reports from the city of Mount Pleasant, Isabella County Road Commission, village of Lake Isabella, Union Township, Isabella County Drain Commission, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Central Michigan University, McLaren Central Michigan, Mount Pleasant Public Schools, Shepherd Public Schools, Isabella Public Schools, Isabella Community Public Health and the Michigan State Police.
